The district of Kolar is located in the southern part of the state of Karnataka. The district has the town of Kolar as its main administrative centre. The district is bordered by the state of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu. The district of Kolar was previously also known with various different names according to the local people like Kolahala, Lolala, Kuvalala. Later on during the medieval periods, the name of the district was changed to Kolahahapura which referred to the district as a violent region. The region was ruled by the kings of the Cholas Kingdom and the Chalukyas. The district of Kolkar occupies an area of around 8225 sq km with a population of about 15.7 lacs approximately. The district came across as a great location for Industries owing to the discovery of the gold fields in the region. The district is also called the ‘Golden Land of India’. The economy of the district is completely dependent on the numerous industries that it has.
