The district of Bidar of the state of Karnataka is one the historic districts of the state. The district of Bidar houses its main administrative centre in the city of Bidar itself. The district is located in the north – eastern part of the state of Karnataka.The district has its borders with the state of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and the district of Gulbarg (Karnataka). The district was a part of Andhra Pradesh till the year of 1956 after which it was included in the state of Karnataka. The regin was ruled by the rulers of the Rashtrakuta Empire and the Chalukyas.
The district finds itself completely placed on the Deccan Plateau. The main river that flows through the region is Manjra and its tributaries. The district of Bidar occupies an area of 5448 sq km with an approximate population of 17 lacs individuals. The density of population of the region is about 312 people per sq km. The district is listed among the 250 most backward districts of India.
