The district of Baran is one of the important districts of the state of Rajasthan. The district has its main administrative headquarters in the city of Baran itself. The district was created in the year 1991 when land was scrapped of from the district of Kota in order to make space for this new district. Before the Independence of India, Baran was a part of the princely state of Kota. The district of Baran was ruled by the kings from the Solanki Dynasty. Just like the other districts of Rajasthan, the district is also on the drier side. The district of Baran has a land area covering approximately around 6992 sq km with a population of about 12.2 lacs individuals. The district of Baran has an approximate population density of around about 175 people per sq km. The district has a lot of places that are of great tourist interests to both the local people as well as people from all over India. In fact the tourism industry is one of the most flourishing industries of the district.
