The district of Barmer is one of the driest districts of the state of Rajasthan. The district is located on the western part of the state of Rajasthan which also constitutes the Great Indian Desert or Thar Desert. The district of Barmer is bordered by the districts of Jaisalmer, Jalore, Pali and Jodhpur. The district also shares an international border with the country of Pakistan. Only one river flows through the area name River Luni which is only 480 km long and draining in the Gulf of Kutch. The land of Barmer is one of the hottest regions of the state as well as of India. The district of Barmer covers a land area of approximately around 28387 sq km with a population that is quite sparse in the interiors of the district. The district of Barmer is one of the 250 most backward districts of the India which receives funds from the Indian Government for maintenance of proper economy.
