The district of Cooch Behar was a Princely state that was given to the state of West Bengal when the British forces left the Indian Soil. The princely state of Kooch Bihar was ruled by the Kooch Dynasty during the medieval periods which was later annexed by the British Army. The district gets its name from the legendary Kooch Dynasty that ruled the land. The district was invaded by Bhutan during the later part of the 18 century and that is when the British forces intervened to save them and unintentionally got captured by them. The district became a official part of the state of Bengal in the year 1950. The district is located in the foothills of the Great Himalayas which makes it prone to extreme flooding and thus there is no exact dependency of agriculture as an occupation. Due to the hilly nature of the terrain, Plantation crops are much preferred by the locals. The district has a population that is approximately 28 lacs individuals with the density of population around 833 people per sq km.
