The Maldah district of the state of West Bengal is famous all over India because of the Mangoes that it produces. The main centre of administration of the district is the town of Maldah which was formerly known as English Bazaar when it was the capital of Bengal during the British rule in India. The history of Maldah can be precisely divided into two parts: The pre – gouranga era and post – gouranga era. The region was under the empires like the Gupta and the Mauryan Empires. The district of Maldah has an area of 3733 sq km under its administration. The population that the district holds under itself is approximately about 40 lacs individuals with the density of population lingering around 1071 people per s km. The district has got all together a complete different culture and festivals. The district is also famous for the silk and jute that it produces.
