The district of North 24 Parganas is a part of the southern West Bengal.The district is bordered by the other districts of South 24 Parganas, Kolkata, Howrah and Hoogly. The district is also bordered by Bangladesh. The district has its main centre for administration in the city of Barasat. There have been excavations at a place very near to Barasat that have led to the historians to believe that the relics are of the Mauryan period. This was the region where the British set up their first settlements in the conquest of whole India. The district is a part of the lower Ganga – Brahmaputra fertile plains. The district is the highest populated district of West Bengal. The number of people living in the region is about 100 lacs individuals which very much equal to the country of Bolivia itself.
