The district of Ahmednagar is the largest district that makes up the state of Maharashtra. The district of Ahmednagar has the city Ahmednagar itself as the main city for the administration of the district. The district of Ahmednagar and the area surrounding the district was under the Ahmednagar Sultanate during the late part of the medieval period. The district of Ahmednagar is a part of the Nasik division. The district is bordered by the districts of Solhapur, Osmanabad, Nasik, Aurangabad, Pune and Thane. The district of Ahmednagar came into being in the year as early as that of 1818.
