The district of Akola is a very important and central part of the Amravati Division of the state of Maharashtra. The district is bordered by the districts of Amravati, Buldhana and Washim. The district of Washim was previously a part of the district of Akola. The district of Akola has the city of Akola itself as the main centre for the control of all the administrative works of the district. The district and the nearby regions were under the rule of the Bhonsle Marathas before region was annexed by the British forces after the second Anglo – Indian War. The district of Akola covers a land area of approximately around 5431 sq km. With a population that approximately amounts up to 18.1 lacs individuals.
