The district of Parbhani is also known as the Prabhavatinagar district. The district is one of the 8 districts that mainly comprises of the Marathawada region. The region was under the rule of the Mughal Emperors from 1596 to 1724 after which the Nizam took over the control. Initially the district was a part of the Bombay state which was later dissolved in the year of 1960 and added to Maharashtra. The district of Parbhani is bordered by the districts of Buldhana, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, Beed and Jalna. The district of Parbhani covers a land area of approximately 6250 sq km with a population of 18.3 lacs individuals residing within the boundaries of the state. The district does depend a lot on the occupation of Agriculture which happens to be the major occupation for the people of the district. The district is also known as the Store house of Jowar. The common tongue of the people of the district are Maratha and Hindi.
