The main administrative centre for the district is located in the city of Jalna town. The district shares its boundaries with the districts of Aurangabad, Beed, Buldhana, Parbhani and Jalgaon. The district of Jalna is located in the central part of the state of Maharashtra. The district has two very low hill ranges running through it. They are: Satmala and Ajanta hills.
