The district of Kolhapur is one of the important districts to the state of Maharashtra. The district is named after the first name of a demon that was later killed by Maha Laxmi. The district has its main centre for all the administrative works in the city of Kolhapur itself. The district of Kolhapur is basically made of three sections out of which there is extremely fertile soil in the Central and Eastern part and the western part is covered with hills and small hills. 
The district of Kolhapur covers a land area of approximately 7686 sq km with a population of approximately around 38.7 lacs individuals. The district has a population density of 504 people per sq km. The district has a lot of area under agriculture as there are large tracts of fertile alluvial soil present along the central and eastern part of the district. There are also a lot of places that are bound to attract the attention of the tourists.
