The district of Sangli is located in the central – western part of the state of Maharashtra. The district has its main administrative centre in the city of Sangli itself. The district is one of those districts till where the Chalukyas had expanded their kingdom. The district is also known for the valiant freedom fighters that it has produced for the sake of Independence of India. The district of SWangli is completely bordered by the districts of Satara, Solapur and Ratnagiri. The district is also bordered by the state of Karnataka. The district of Sangli covers a land area of approximately around 8573 sq km with a population of about 28.2 lacs individuals. The district has a population density of 329 people per sq km. The district is one of the prime industrial regions of the state and the city of Kirloskarwadi is one of the largest industrial cities of the district. The majority of the people of the district speak Maratha and Hindi.
