The district of Satara is one of the most undulated lands of the state of Maharashtra. The district has the highest part of the Western Ghats running through the heart of the district. The district of Satara has the city of Satara itself as the main administrative centre for the district. The district and the land nearby it are supposed to have connections with the epic of Mahabharata as the Pandavas might just have stayed in this region during their 13 years exile. The district was at its height of glory when it was under the rule of the Rashtrakuta rulers. The third Anglo – Maratha war took place in the lands of the region. The district covers a land area of 10480 sq km with a population of approximately around 30 lacs individuals. The district has a population density of around about 287 people per sq km. Not a lot is known about the occupation of the people of the region but the district has one of the best schools that prepares kids for the Indian Army.
