The district of Balaghat has the town of Balaghat as its main administrative centre. The district of Balaghat is a part of the central part of the Republic of India. The district has seen many internal wars between the Marathas as it was once under the Bhonsle Marathas and then shortly went in the hands of the Garha – Mandla Empire. The region had also seen the likes of the third Anglo – Maratha war after which it became the part of the princely state of Nagpur.
The district of Balaghat is presently a part of the southern part of Jabalpur division. It has some parts of the Satpura Range included within it. The district of Balaghat covers a land area of around 9245 sq km with a population of around 17 lacs individuals. The density of population is 184 people per sq km. The district has a lot of Manganese deposits and Copper deposits. The mining industry literally holds on to the economy of the district.
