The district of Satna came into being in the year 1948 and since then has evolved as an important district to the state of Madhya Pradesh. The district of Satna is bordered by the districts of Rewa, Umaria, Shahdol, Katni, and Panna. The district is also bordered by the state of Uttar Pradesh. The district was initially a part of the Baghelkhand Region which was under the rule of the Rewa rulers. During the later part of the history, the British army intruded the land and the region was annexed. The district of Satna covers a land area of approximately 7502 sq km with a population of 22.2 lacs individuals. The district has a population density of 297 people per sq km. The district is not that greatly developed as it is a part of the 250 most backward districts of India and depends on the funds given by the Government of India for its proper functionaing.
