The district of Gwalior is one of the most important administrative districts of the state of Madhya Pradesh. Apart from the administrative importance, the district also has a lot of historical importance for the state. The region was one of the most influential princely states. The district is well known in the history because of the role that the region played in the revolt of 1857 against the British Rule in India. The district is bordered by the districts of Bhind, Datia, Sheopur, Shivpuri and Morena. The district is a part of the Gwalior division of the state of Madhya Pradesh. The district of Gwalior covers a land area of approximately around 4563 sq km with a population of 20.3 lacs individuals. The district has a population density of 445 individuals per sq km. The district is one of the most crowded districts of the state with a literacy percentage of 77.93%.
