The district of Bhind is an important part of the Chambal Division. The district has its main headquarters for the administrative purposes in the city of Bhind itself. The district gets its name from the famous saint named Bhindi Rishi from the tales of Mahabharata who resided in the fertile alluvial plains of Bhind District. The district is also of prime religious interest for the local Hindus as there are many sacred places that also enhance the tourism industry of the district. The district is one of the major regions which have been affected by the phenomenon of Erosion in India. The district is filled with Ravines which are a result of gully erosion that occur due to running water. Apart from this, the district has a fertile soil which helps in the growth of crops. Thus agriculture is the main occupation of the people of the Bhind district. The population of the district is about 17 lacs which extend over an area of 4459 sq km with a population density of 382 people per sq km.
