The district of Vidisha is bordered by the districts of Ashokenagar, Raisen, Sagar, Bhopal and Guna. The district has the main administrative centre in the city of Vidisha itself. The majority of the landmass of the state is covered by the Vindhyachal Plateau which extends from the Vindhyachal Mountain Range. The district originated in the year 1904 when two tehsils were joined and one district was formed. Later after the independence the district of Vidisha was made a part of the state of Madhya Bharat but later on in the year 1948 was enlarged and added to the srare of Madhya Pradesh. The district of Vidusha covers a land area of approximately 7371 sq km with a population of 14.5 lacs individuals. The district has a population density of around about 198 people per sq km. The historic city of Besnagar and the Sanchi Stupa is located in the district of Vidisha.
