The district of Tikamgarh is one of the 50 districts that make up the state of Madhya Pradesh. The district of Tikamgarh has its main administrative centre in the city of Tikamgarh itself. The city was previously known as Tihri. The district basically covers the princely state of Orchha. The district was created in the year 1948 after Indian independence when the princely state came under the administration of India. During the Mughal period, the region was at the height of its glory under Akbar and Jahangir.
