The District of Dewas is mainly made up of the two princely states that made up the region of Dewas during the British Rule in India. The district is located in such a way that half of it is the hilly region of the Vindhya mountain range and half is a part of the Malwa Plateau. During the medieval times the district of Dewas was under the rule of the legendary ruler, Vikramaditya and is also considered to be the golden period of the region. The district has its main centre for administrative purposes in the city of Dewas itself. The district of Dewas occupies a land area of around 7020 sq km with a population of approximately 15.6 lacs individuals. The district has a population density of 223 people per sq km. The main occupation of the people of the region is agriculture with the main food crops as Wheat, rice, cotton, etc.
