The district of Panna is a part of the Sagar division of the state of Madhya Pradesh. The district has its main administrative headquarters located in the city of Panna itself. The district of Panna is one of the oldest districts of Madhya Pradesh as it was created in the year of 1950 very shortly after the independence if India from the British forces. The district comprises of the princely states of the region. The district has the Ken River flowing through its heartland with the Pandav and the Gatha falls on it. The district of Panna covers a land area of 7155 sq km with a population of 10.1 lacs individuals per sq km. The district has a population density of approximately 142 people per sq km. The district is also famous for the diamond mines that it has. Majhagaon, the only active diamond mine in whole of Asia is located in the district. In spite of this, the district is one of the 250 most backward districts of India and depends a lot on the funds given under the Backward Regions Grant Fund Program by the Indian Government.
