The district of Shahdol is the most important district of the Shahdol division of the state of Madhya Pradesh. The district of Shahdol has its main administrative centre in the city of Shahdol itself. The name of the city of Shahdol comes from one of the powerful resident of the village of Shoagpur named Shahdolwa Ahir. The district gets the name of Shahdol from its main administrative city. The district of Shahdol is located in the north – eastern part of the state of Madhya Pradesh. The district is bordered by the other districts of Anuppur, Sindhi, Satna, and Umaria. The district of Shahdol covers a land area of approximately 5671 sq km with a population of 10.6 lacs. The district has a population density of approximately 172 people per sq km. The district is extremely backward in case of agriculture. Although there are quite a few mineral resources, it does not help in improving the economy of the district as it is a part of the 250 most backward districts of India.
