The district of Datia is bordered by the districts of Bhind, Gwalior, Shivpuri and Jhansi (Uttar Pradesh). The district has its main administrative centre in the city of Datia itself. The district is one of the prime examples of the completely different kind of culture that exists in the central part of India. The district has many temples belonging to various different local Gods and Goddesses. The region was once under the rule of Jahangir to whom the king of Datia surrendered even without a fight. The district of Datia covers a land area of approximately 2038 sq km. The district has a population of 7.8 lacs with the population density of about 292 individuals per sq km. The district of Datia is extremely well connected by the Western Central Railway. The main occupation of the people of the region is agriculture. The local people of Datia speak a dialect named Bharia which is very much similar to the Devanagari script.
