Araria District of The state of Bihar is a part of The Purnia Division. It is one of the 38 districts that find itself in the map of the state of Bihar. The district found its name in quite a funny fashion. During the British Period in India, the Bungalow of Mr. Forbes was termer as the ‘R. Area’ as a short form to Residential Area. Since then the district is known as Araria. The district came into existence the year 1990 as a prime administrative centre for the Purnia Division. The district of Araria spans over an area of 2830 sq km furnishing a population of 28 lacs individuals approximately. The district finds four rivers flowing through it: Kosi, Kali, Suwara and Koli. The main agricultural crops of the district include Maize, Jute, Paddy, etc. As the Jute production of the district is quite high, there are many Jute mills in the region. The district of Araria is not well developed as it receives funds from Backward Regions Grant Fund Program as it is listed in the 250 most underdeveloped districts of India.
