The district of Gaya was official added to the map of India in the year 1865. Just like Buxar, Gaya finds an eminent place in the epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata. In the medieval times, the district of Gaya came into the pages of History as it was an important site for the Gupta Kings who gave India its Golden Period. The district of Gaya is headed by the town of Gaya, which is also the second largest town of Bihar. The district of Gaya has an area of 4976 sq km under its jurisdiction. The river of Falgu flows through the sacred land of Gaya. The district of Gaya has a population of 43 lacs individuals. The district holds 880 individuals per sq km of its area. The tourism prospect of the district is extremely high as it earns a lot of Revenue for the district administration. Despite of all the efforts, the district still finds itself staring at the list of India’s 250 most backward districts. The district receives funds from the Indian Government.
