The district of Gopalganj is a part of the Saran Division of the state of Bihar. The main administrative centre of the district is the city of Gopalganj. In the ancient times, the district was ruled by the Mallyas. During the prehistoric times, it is considered that Gopalganmj was a part of Nepal. The district came into being in the year of 1976. The district of Gopalganj occupies an area of 2033 sq km. A majority of this area suffers from the natural calamity of floods.Just like many other districts of Bihar, Gopalganj also goes through the extremes of climate with three distinct seasons. The district has good facilities of Health and education which is an anomaly considering the other districts of Bihar. The main occupation of the people of the district is agriculture. The district also produces many doctors and engineers. Although there are so many things that speak so many good things about the district, the economy of the district is very poor which makes it to the list of 250 most backward districts of India.
