The district of Madhubani is the district that covers a large portion of the Mithila Region. The district is a part of the Darbhanga Division. The district has the town of Madhubani as its main administrative centre. The district came into being in the year1972 when it was carved out of the district of Darbhanga. The district of Madhubani covers a area of 3501 sq km with the major part being carved out of the district of Darbhanga. The district accommodates a huge population of 44 lacs individuals approximately with a population density of 1279 individuals per sq km. The district is famous for the fresh water fishes that it produces. The district is famous all over India for its unique style of paintings.
