The district of Khagaria is literally the main administrative district of the state of Bihar. The district of Khagaris is a part of the Munger Division. The district is also known as Fakaria in the local language of the people. The district of Khagaria covers a area of 1486 sq km on land. The town of Khagaria is the main administrative centre of Khagaria District. Todermal, a minister in the court of the great Mughal king Akbar, gave the name to the place as Fakaria. The population living in the area of Khagaria is approximately 16 lacs individuals. The district has quite high population density with 1115 persons living in unit sq km region. The district is surrounded by as many as seven rivers which affect the life of the people greatly by causing a great deal of damage to life, property and animals. The district is a part of the 250 most backward districts of India and is literally dependent on the aids provided by the Indian Government.
