The district of Arwal was previously a part the Jehanabad district. The main administrative city of the district is the town of Arwal itself. The district has quite an aggressive recent past. The area was literally torn apart as many people of the area turned into Naxalities which made them against the government. Many people lost their lives in the shoot outs that took place between the Naxalites and the army and police. The mass killing event of the Dalit people in the year 1997 is a black scar on the face of the district. The district of Arwal occupies an area of 637 sq km with a population of 69 thousand individuals approximately. This makes the district of Arwal the third least populated districts of the state of Bihar. The district is completely devoid of ant Industries making the district highly dependent of Agriculture.
