The district of West Champaran is one of the main administrative districts of the state of Bihar. The district belongs to the Tirhut division. The district has its headquarters in the city of Bettiah. The district shares a very volatile border with the country of Nepal. The district was a part of the united Champaran district which split into the east Champaran district and West Champaran District in the year of 1972. The district covers a land area of 5228 sq km with a population that approximately amounts up to 39 lacs individuals. The district has a population density of just 75 individuals per sq km compared to the above 1000 mark in most of the districts of Bihar. The main language of the people of the west Champaran District is Bhojpuri along with Devanagari in some places. The district of Champaran played an important role in India’s fight against the British. This is the place from where The Father of Our Nation started his journey for India’s Freedom.
